Death Ships
Book: Death Ships
Author: Doug Limbrick
My Thoughts:
This is the first book I have read by Doug Limbrick, and I am deeply impressed by the depth of research and passion he brings to telling the story of six emigrant ships. It is a gripping account of life and death aboard these massive vessels.
Around 5,000 emigrants, seeking a fresh start and a better life, embarked on these North American–built ships. Their hopes, however, were met with grim realities — appalling conditions, rampant disease, and the tragic loss of many lives before reaching their destination.
These large, two-deck vessels had originally been deemed unsafe for transporting emigrants. The high death toll earned them the haunting nickname of “death ships.”
I can scarcely imagine the horror and trauma endured by the passengers on these voyages. The book is packed with remarkable insights that will make you eager to explore more of Doug’s works. It is both compelling and thought-provoking, and I highly recommend it.
