Review:

Based on a true story and the history of the Fifty-Eighth Illinois, the book 'The Faithful Dog' highlights the beautiful bond and the faithfulness of a dog towards his master.

Bรคrchen lives with Elizabeth, Louis and their little daughter Louisa. When Louis Pfeif left home for training, the family dog Bรคrchen followed him with the thinking that he would protect his master for the time Louis was away from home.

During the training, Bรคrchen showed various skills and tactics which made Louis sure that he would do great on the battlefield too. Second Lieutenant Pfeif was attached to the Fifty-Eighth Illinois regiment. On the battlefield, Bรคrchen's eyes, ears, nose everything stayed alert. He did the best he could do to protect his master.

The way the story ends is different from my expectations but I loved the faithfulness of Bรคrchen. While reading this story, I became fond of this dog. The world building is impressive and I appreciate the way the plot is written. One couldn't keep this book aside without knowing what will happen at the end. It's one of the best historical fiction that I have read this year.
